Blue station wagon on the road at sunset

Every student arrives at lesson one with the same two questions: will I break something, and will I embarrass myself? The answers are no and briefly, maybe. Here is exactly how your first hour unfolds.

Minutes 0–10: The cockpit drill

We start parked. Seat, mirrors, seatbelt, pedals, gears, handbrake — the boring stuff that makes everything else possible. You will adjust everything twice until you can do it without thinking.

Minutes 10–25: First moves

In an empty lot, you will pull away, stop, and steer wide lazy circles. Yes, you might stall. Every student does, usually twice. Stalling is a ten-second event, not a verdict — restart, breathe, go again.

Minutes 25–45: Quiet streets

When the basics feel steady, we roll onto the calmest nearby streets. Left turns, right turns, one roundabout if you're ready. Your instructor's foot hovers over the dual brake the whole time — you are never actually in danger.

Minutes 45–60: Debrief and plan

We park, talk through what clicked, and map lessons two and three. You get your first written progress report — most students keep it for years.
